It is a daunting task to pursue anything bearing resemblance to an overview of media art in Japan, as such an undertaking is quite endless. Japan has a long history of media arts and has been seen as a pioneer in Asia within this field, which combined with its prominence in electronics manufacture has drawn much international attention.
The institutions and artists outlined here are those I have for the majority met in person, or have a particular interest in, however I acknowledge there are many great artists and highly active organizations and curators who have not been included in this particular commentary.
